The blog is back!

The blog is back, after taking a brief hiatus over Nationals. I know you guys missed it…
We were able to pack up and leave in pretty much record time today. I think we were all eager to get to the beach, so we put a little extra effort into leaving on time. We had a late breakfast/lunch ("dunch") in Atlanta, and then were on our way. The drive was a very interesting one. I'm pretty sure we took the scenic route, which was not exactly direct. It definitely felt like we were meandering for most of the drive, especially when we drove a couple circles through some neighborhood. We took a driving tour of Troy University, a small college in Alabama. A few more circles were made as we tried to figure out just how we could leave the university parking lot. I feel like acceptance into the school should be based on whether or not you can navigate around campus (Which in all honesty, would probably result in a really low acceptance rate.)
For our awkwardly late lunch, we ate at a little deli near the school, which was absolutely delicious. It always pays off to eat local, as opposed to eating at a chain. Maybe not always, but most of the time. After lunch, we continued on our long, wandering path through the backwoods of Alabama. We got to see some really gorgeous old plantation houses, and some cool old fashioned southern towns. Overall, the drive was really cool.
As soon as we crossed the Florida state line, we were accosted by beaches. The entire state of Florida is pretty much one big beach. Our final destination was Santa Rosa beach, where Callie Walter's grandparents have been gracious enough to let us stay in their beach house. The place is totally amazing. The beach is pretty much in their backyard, and we had the whole beach to ourselves. We barely even had time to unpack before we threw our swimsuits on and jumped in the water. We didn't have much daylight left, so we made the best of it.
For dinner, Mrs. Walter made us some absolutely amazing gumbo, with chocolate cake afterwards. It has been a very satisfying day.
