NAWLEANS!

Jul 14 2010

We've arrived in New Orleans! It's been a long day, but we're finally here. This is our last stop before we start the drive back to Texas.
Yesterday was pretty much the most awesome day ever. We woke up and ate some amazing breakfast tacos, made possible through Stan's iPhone's Yelp app finding the restaurant. After, we spent literally the ENTIRE day on the beach. As evidenced by the intense sunburns that most everyone got. Mrs. Walter was kind enough to make us some amazing pasta and lasagna for dinner, and served us cake for dinner. We very much appreciate the hospitality that the Walter family has shown us!
After dinner was a late night walk/creepy crab hunt on the beach. We didn't get to bed until at least midnight.
This morning we woke up, packed up everything, waved goodbye to the Walters, and were on our way. We ate at the awesome breakfast taco restaurant again, because we can't venture too far out of our box. After driving for about an hour, we stopped at a little freshwater spring somewhere in Florida. It was awesome. It was pretty much a freezing cold spring surrounded by giant mangrove trees. Did I mention the place was overrun by hicks? Oh yes, there were hicks, and there were hick shenanigans. On more than one occasion, I had to just look away from whatever they were doing, because someone was going to drown. Morgan and I made a poor decision and decided to explore the mangroves. If you thought that "exploring the mangroves" sounded just like a trek through stinky mud and dead rotting trees, than you were right. We're lucky we made it out with our flip flops intact. Most everyone else spent their time in the freezing water, swinging off the rope swing and jumping off the dock. It was actually a really gorgeous place, and a good way to relax before beginning the drive to New Orleans.
We stopped in Mobile, Alabama for dinner. Again, Stan saved by using Yelp to find us an amazing seafood restaurant. Afterward, we went to get coffee, and I had the greatest Chai tea latte I've ever had in my life. Part of me wishes I could be stuck inside of Mobile…so I could have some more Chai tea latte…
We rolled up to Nawleans at about 9:30 tonight. I'm really excited to see this city tomorrow! Tomorrow is our last full day of summer trip, so we better make it good.
